Psalm 119:144 - "Your statutes are forever right; give me understanding that I may live."
How would you like to really live; to live your life with purpose, meaning, and fulfillment? It would be a surprise if you answered that question, "No." No one seeks to live life without direction. No one seeks to, but the majority of people do. How many people do you know that wander through life aimlessly, as though their direction in life is dependent upon whatever comes their way?
David sought to live his life purposefully. He wanted his life to please God. And, he wanted to live by the statutes that God had laid down. He sought God's wisdom. He wanted understanding. In fact, he wanted it so much that he said, "give me understanding that I may live." Was David saying that he would die without God's understanding? I don't think so. I believe that what David is trying to say here is that in order to truly live life in a way that was fulfilling, he needed to know God. He needed to know God's heart concerning him. He needed God's wisdom.
May that be the type of life that I long for, and that you long for. Let's be people who seek God's understanding. And, let's be people who live in a way that pleases Him by taking the understanding He gives and applying it to our lives.
Dear God,
Thank You that you grant wisdom to those who seek it. You promise to give wisdom and to give it liberally. Help us to please You. Help us to take the understanding that You give and apply it to our lives.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
