Another Friday Night in America

Psalm 119:150 - "Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law."

It's the weekend, and in the world of so many people that means that temptation is ratcheted up a notch. Tonight college students and high school students all across America will be faced with fierce pressure to conform at parties. Tonight will be a night where some married men and women will be tempted to stray. Tonight will be a night where a business owner will be tempted to cut corners. Tonight will be a night where thieves will attempt to rob. It's another Friday night in America.

The Psalmist said that those who devise wicked schemes are near. Things haven't changed much in 3000 years. There is no shortage of those who would seek to do that which is evil in the site of God. And, those people are far from God's law. But what do we do when the people devising to do evil are you and me? How do God's children battle the evil desires that well up within us. Lest we become too proud of our position in Christ, remember just how easy it is to fall into sin. We must walk through this life with our eyes open. Temptation is most powerful when it catches us unaware. We need to be held accountable. We need to walk our walk with people who will uphold us in prayer. We need each other. And, we need to be real with each other. May we not be the wicked of whom David speaks in this verse. Pursue Christ with everything that you are, and everything that you have, and everything you hope to be.

Dear God,

We want to be people who passionately pursue You. Help us to stand up to temptation. Help us to walk in Your ways. Help us never to be the evil ones that are spoken of here.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
