Holiness When The Traps Are Set

Psalm 119:110 - "The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts."

Turn to your right and find? Temptation! Turn to your left and what's there? Temptation! Look straight ahead or turn around and what do you find? Temptation! And, you can feel trapped. Some people just give in. "After all," they say, "I'm just going to eventually succumb to the temptation."

It doesn't have to be that way.

Beating temptation begins with realizing the source of your temptation. Satan is doing everything that he can to make you stumble. He is continually setting traps for God's people to fall into. When we recognize, like David did, that temptation comes from the evil one, we are better positioned to fight.

The second step is to recognize that we beat temptation by knowing and using the Word of God. Remember way back at the beginning of this series through Psalm 119 we looked at how a person walks in purity? (verses 9-11)It's by living by the Word. We need to hide it in our hearts.

The third step is to flee when we see it. And, expect that when you flee one temptation that another is waiting around the corner. The more you say, "No," to sin, the stronger you become. That is, as long as you recognize that your ability to say, "no," is because of the power of God working in you.

Dear God,

Thank You for giving us the tools that we need to say, "no," to temptation. Give us the strength to continually walk away from the temptation that comes our way.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
